Annotation
Based on historical sources brought into consideration for the first time, an attempt is made to reconstruct the history of the creation, content and transformation of the concept, as well as the further fate of volume VI, dedicated to the history of Russian philosophy, as part of the academic “History of Philosophy”, which was prepared at the Institute of Philosophy of the USSR Academy of Sciences during the Great Patriotic War war. New information is provided about the organization and progress of work on the volume, the timing of preparation of materials, the distribution of texts by authors and editors, the process of discussion and testing of the results of the work. The evolution of the concept of the volume from “The History of Philosophy of the Peoples of the USSR” to “The History of Russian Philosophy” is considered in the context of a large-scale ideological collision of the 1940s associated with the rethinking of the issues of national identity and the policy of historical memory as factors in the formation of Soviet patriotism. The content of the report of the head of the sector of the history of philosophy of the Institute of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences Bernard Bykhovsky on December 28, 1943, as well as the text of the article prepared on the basis of this report, is covered in detail. These documents presented the substantive structure and conceptual basis of the “History of Russian Philosophy.” An analysis of these sources shows that volume VI gave a holistic and patriotically oriented concept of the history of Russian philosophy, in which national features prevailed over the division into materialism and idealism, and the Russian mental and philosophical tradition, the history of which was proposed to date from the 15th century, according to the main parameters was rated higher than Western European. A hypothesis is put forward to explain the reasons for stopping the production of “The History of Russian Philosophy” in 1944.
