The media representation of «Philosopher’s ship»: 100 years later

Annotation

The article presents some results of a study of the russian media representation of «Philosopher’s Ship». The goal of media content analysis was to reveal the dynamics of information presence, to determine tone of media coverage; to classify the themes which are covered widely across the media; to examine the context in which «Philosopher’s Ship» is referred to most often. The study has revealed that: the number of articles reporting on «Philosopher’s Ship» increased over the 20-year study period; media articles portrayed «Philosopher’s Ship» neutrally (61%) and negatively (36%), rarely positively (3%); comparing intelligentsia deportations of 1922 with the emigration stream of 2022 is the theme most commonly linked with the «Philosopher’s Ship».
