Annotation

The article is devoted to the study of the traditions of alternative historical prose in A. Ivanov’s novel «The Heart of Parma». Comparative-historical, cultural-historical, as well as the method of holistic analysis of a work of art are used. As a result, it was established that the historical narrative of A. Ivanov, no less than fantastic prose, is characterized by the «technique» of the subjunctive mood in understanding the past: in the novel «The Heart of Parma», real historical events (expanding the boundaries of the Moscow Principality due to the annexation of Perm / Parma) are organically combined with elements of parenting novel, fantasy and alternate history. The starting point of the alternative history here is the events of 6963 (1455), when the Voguls attack Old Perm, destroy its capital, kill the vicegerent Prince Yermolai and the Cherdyn prince Tanega. This leads to the fact that the eldest son of Yermolai, Mikhail, becomes the supreme prince of the entire Perm land (Perm of Staraya Vychegodskaya and Perm of Great Kama). A «surreal» branch of history is woven into the real history of Perm, which develops after 1455: two specific territories of the Moscow principality under the leadership of Mikhail become the Perm principality spiritually and culturally independent from Russia, but in the finale of the novel, the alternative world is destroyed, colliding with the real history.
