Strategies of canonical controversy and apologetics of “alternative orthodoxy” communities

Annotation

The article is devoted to the analysis of apologetic self-presentation strategies frequently used by religious communities of “alternative Orthodoxy” and their leaders on the Internet. Since modern marginal religious communities actively explore the information environment and productively use information dissemination technologies, the strategies analyzed in the article form the symbolic policy they implement. The apologetic strategies used by communities of marginal Orthodoxy are aimed at forming empty framework concepts and semiotic fictions that give canonically vulnerable, dubious, and often openly modernist practices the appearance of traditionalism. At the same time, the main emphasis is placed on the application of canonical norms, while their semantic interpretation remains in the background, and meaningful argumentation is replaced by emotionally colored rhetoric.
