Annotation

The presented work is devoted to the study of V. S. Solovyov’s ecumenical ideas. According to the philosopher, the tragedy of the rupture of Christianity into Orthodoxy and Catholicism occurred due to the fault of the Byzantine clergy, who were carried away by the “anti-Roman heresy”. In the current state, none of the Christian denominations has been able to realize the main idea of Christianity — the creation of a universal state of social harmony in unity with God. This is the historical mission of Russia. The Russian autocratic emperor must take the pope of Rome, persecuted by European secular states, under his protection, return the hierarchy natural to Christianity with him at its head and rebuild society on the principles of “free theocracy”. Vl. Solovyov’s project turned out to be unviable, and later the thinker departed from the ideas of God-manhood and theocracy, but retained the dream of reuniting the churches. It was in this vein that the Russian theologians of the 20th century continued to develop the ideas of ecumenism.
