The idea of the absolute good in the philosophical teaching of I. V. Mikhailovsky
Annotation
In the work “Essays on the Philosophy of Law” (1914) by the outstanding Russian philosopher and lawyer Joseph Vikentievich Mikhailovsky (1867–1920), who, in contrast to the neo-Kantians, put forward the call “Back to Hegel!”, we will find a detailed concept of natural law as an element of the world ethical order, united by the idea of absolute good. Developing the traditions of the Russian philosophy of law, dating back to B. N. Chicherin, Mikhailovsky seeks to synthesize the Hegelian idea of a universal moral world order and Kant’s interpretation of law on the basis of the interrelation of the idea of reason and the idea of good. In its final formulation, the idea of law acts as a synthesis of public order and personal freedom of a person. The teachings of I. V. Mikhailovsky can be considered as one of the promising sources of modern philosophy of law in Russia.
