Annotation

The paper examines Berdyaev’s views on the ideological heritage of Slavophiles. It is revealed, that the philosopher’s assessment of this is not devoid of certain contradictions. On the one hand, the importance of Slavophile ideas in the development of national self- consciousness, as well as the promotion of original Russian theology and philosophy is highly appreciated. On the other hand, Berdyaev criticizes Slavophiles for excessive immersion in folk traditions, rather specific understanding of the role of the community in national history, and lack of prophetic and eschatological motives in their works. The article emphasizes that this controversy by no means diminishes the importance of Slavophile ideas for the works of prominent Russian thinkers, actually enriching their philosophical insights.
