Erotic theme in soviet art of the 1920-1950s

Annotation

The doctrine of socialist realism, which was formalized in 1934 at the First All-Union Congress of Soviet Writers, implied the mobilization of all forms of art for the cause of affirming "socialist ideals", i.e. glorification of the achievements of Soviet modernity and the glorification of the revolutionary past, by creating works in generally understandable realistic forms, which was formulated as a "truthful depiction of reality in its revolutionary development." This setting did not provide for the existence of the art of chamber-intimate sound, and the erotic theme, as such, was gradually deleted from the official culture, as it clearly contradicted the officially proclaimed principles of "ideological" and "partisanship" of a work of art. But the revolutionary transformations did not turn the artists away from the eternal theme of Eros, and it continued to sound in its own way in the work of representatives of each of these trends, including those who now considered it possible to display only ideologically biased works for public display.
