Annotation

In Russia, there were several definitions of philosophy. The most authoritative were the definitions of John of Damascus contained in his book «The Source of knowledge». One of the first definitions of philosophy was that of Constantine-Cyril, the first teacher of the Slavs. In addition, the definition of philosophy gave Maxim the Greek, Andrei Kurbsky, Karion Istomin and others. Thus, in Russia in the pre-Petrine period, there were several definitions of philosophy that complemented each other. Later they entered the Russian culture of the New time in a slightly modified form. However, they existed in the Russian written language from the earliest pre-Mongol period.
