According to R. Pippin’s approach, «The Science of Logic» was defined by Hegel not only as a doctrine of the forms of thinking, but also as a study of the content of philosophical thinking. Therefore, it can be considered both as a renewal of logic and as a development of traditional metaphysics. R. Pippin explores the Hegelian text mainly in the latter aspect. At the same time, logic is understood as a self-sufficient form of pure thinking, and metaphysics as an explication of the essence of the intelligibility of the world. The central place in this interpretation is occupied by the Hegelian concept of actuality as containing and expressing the logical idea of life.
