Annotation

The article considers the metaphysical basis of inspiration and shows its ontological and temporal implications. The author analyzes ontic and ontological components of the «special condition» on the basis of the short story «A Joke» by Anton Chekhov. It is shown that Chekhov focuses on the metaphysical aspect of the heroine’s inspiration. As the action proceeds and the heroine’s inspiration is relieving from the romance, its ontological origin appears. Ontological implications of love appear to be associated with the issues of ontological insufficiency, fullness of presence and salvation. The paper proved that a true semantic focus of the story lies in the discovery made by the heroine: the discovery of the Other as an author of her inspiration, whose presence transforms the ordinary way of timing into the mode of true present.
