Formation of national historical and philosophical self-consciousness: project of a volume on Russian philosophy as part of the academic history of philosophy in 1943 (Article one)

Annotation

The issue of an unpublished volume as part of the multi-volume academic «History of Philosophy», which was devoted to the history of Russian philosophy and was created at the Institute of Philosophy of the USSR Academy of Sciences in the early years of the Great Patriotic War (1941–1943), is considered. This volume was to become the first in the USSR collective scientific work on the history of Russian philosophy, subject to a single methodological concept and as complete as possible in terms of chronological and thematic coverage of the material. The historiography of the issue and the historical events in the context of which the volume was prepared are highlighted. Attention is paid to the criticism that the manuscript of the volume was subjected to after the Decree of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks of 1944, which led to the termination of the publication of the History of Philosophy. Based on the analysis of printed sources, memoirs, documents from the collection of the Institute of Philosophy in the Archives of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a picture of the work on the volume is recreated. New information about the authors of the volume and its content is given, the evolution of the project concept from the «History of the Philosophy of the Peoples of the USSR» to the «History of Russian Philosophy» is traced.
