The philosophical theology of Slavoj Zižek: christianity or anti–christianity?

Annotation

The article is devoted to the problem of determining the place of Slavoj Žižek’s theological concept between positive theology, negative one and atheism. Žižek’s doctrine of the “failed Absolute” is compared with the Orthodox doctrine of the Holy Trinity, with the doctrine of the “weak” God in postmodern theology, and with the doctrine of the “death of God” in materialistic psychoanalysis. The difference is found between the metaphysics of presence, the ontological negation of God, the belief in God “without God” and Žižek’s understanding of God as the subject of a radical break. It is established that Zizek’s “God” is a person, capable of interrupting the logic of symbolic chains. This explains why Žižek’s criticism of Christianity does not exclude for him the significance of the Christian heritage. Such critic as a part of the criticism of any hegemony, including liberal democracy. This outlines the ways for a dialogue between Žižek’s anti-globalism doctrine and traditionalism.
